The hypothesis is that there will be equivalent survival, both disease-free
and overall, equivalent long term regional control in the axillary
and nodal areas, and decreased morbidity in the sentinel node arm.
Those are the primary endpoints. The number of patients that are
entered into this study which will be 5,400 and that will
allow randomization of about 4,000 node negative patients
is to be able to detect a 2% survival difference. Its very,
very tight, and the reason for that is that this is really a procedure
that is diminishing morbidity, the sentinel node. Now, what would
be a cut-off of the price to pay in survival to get the gain in
the decreased morbidity? All right? Let me ask you, I mean, lets
say the study came out and there was 10% difference in survival.
Would you go do sentinel nodes then? I mean, down, sentinel nodes
decreased the survival by 10%.
