Panel Discussion on Current and Future use of Ductal Lavage
Supported by Cytyc Health Corporation

Wednesday, December 11, 2002
7:30 PM Buffet Reception
8 – 9:30 PM Program

San Antonio Marriott Riverwalk Hotel
Salon D, Second Floor

Target Audience
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of oncologists, surgeons, radiation therapists and nurses involved in the management of patients with breast cancer.

Statement of Need
There is a great deal of heterogeneity in how physicians manage women at high risk for breast cancer. A very small number of physicians polled were currently utilizing ductal lavage or chemoprevention in their practice. Ductal lavage is a safe and relatively simple procedure, whose results may influence a woman’s decision as to whether or not to initiate chemopreventive therapy, use hormone replacement therapy, initiate early mammographic screening, or undergo prophylactic mastectomy. In addition, ductal lavage has the potential to enhance our future understanding of mutagenesis and our ability to detect breast cancer earlier

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Differentiate your high-risk patients in whom ductal lavage should be performed
  • Determine and implement an evaluation and management algorithm for your patients who have an abnormal ductal lavage
  • Identify areas of research and future use of ductal lavage
