OVERVIEW

Neil Love, MD

For the past 16 years I have had the pleasure of producing the Breast Cancer Update audio series which is listened to by more than two thirds of medical oncologists in the United States. Over the past few years our group has also started to host a variety of live meetings, allowing us to interact with our listeners and gather content for our series. This upcoming event held in conjunction with the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium stands to be our most ambitious, relevant and exciting ever.

This satellite meeting will utilize an innovative and dynamic format and features seven debates covering some of the most important controversies in systemic therapy for early breast cancer. To begin each debate, I will read a position statement outlining a specific treatment approach and will ask the audience to register its level of agreement with the statement using electronic keypad polling devices. After we have gauged attendees’ perspectives, a member of our research leader panel will review the available clinical research data and ongoing trials that currently guide treatment decision-making in this arena. Our faculty panel will then debate the topic and provide their opinions with the hope of developing a consensus for each of the controversies discussed.

Our group is extremely excited about this unprecedented event. We believe the lively discussion and fascinating interchange that will ensue during these debates will truly represent continuing medical education at its best. We have assembled a superb faculty panel for this meeting and are hopeful that with your participation, together we will produce a valuable educational program that provides relevant, practical and important perspectives on the state-of-the-art management of early breast cancer.

I hope you will join us.
